The Medical Grade Air Mattress ordeal Update!
Well, Here's an update on the whole air mattress ordeal! So, I called my Dr.'s office yesterday, to see if the Dr. had sent the script in for the medical grade air mattress, and the script hasnhad not even been sent into my DME. The Dr. has been so busy with things, that he had just not had time to do this. Well today, my Mom called the Dr. because I'd called several times, and they said that they're working on the mattress. I don't know what that means, but I HOPE, that they are getting the script in, so that we can see if lovely Medical insurance is going to pay for it. I sincerely hope so, because the little pad with a pump, isn't the best for long term use patients. I would call that something you'd use for a short term hospice patient who's passing soon, and who's not going to be on the air mattress for a long period of time.
In this case, It's a comfortable pad, It'll help reduce the risk of the hospice patient getting pressure ulcers, and causing more problems than there already are. That is a great use for the alternating pressure pad, and the little pump that pumps a tiny amount of air into it to keep inflated, and to help alternate pressure on the patient's skin. It's a quiet pump, and it's easy to set.
For a long term patient like Me, who's hopefully not going to die anytime soon, this thing isn't the best fit. It's just not the best thing. I mean that pump only lasted two years. A patient like me, needs a medical grade mattress that has a blower, that's going to put out more air, to fill a full blown air mattress An air mattress that not only alternates, but has low air loss therapy, to reduce moisture Because I sweat a whole lot. I'm on a ventilator that puts out a lot of heat, and plus there's an oxygen concentrator that puts out a lot of heat. My metabolics are all messed up, and have been for years. Plus the heater humidifier that is in line with my ventilator gives me heated humidification at body temperature. And some would just say, "Use an HME." The Heat And Moisture Exchanger in line with the ventilator will not give me enough humidification, thus, I would get plugs, and would have MUCH thicker secretions. You think That's going to work? I've tried it! IT DOES NOT WORK! I get sick easily with those things on 24 hours a day, instead of the 100% Humidification that my Heater Humidifier supplies me with.
What's the Plan for now? To wait! That's all I can do. Hopefully we'll hear something sooner rather than later! I will keep you updated on how things progress, as time goes by.
Maybe I'll hear something by April or may! You might ask why I'm being so sarcastic? BECAUSE, if you've been dealing with medical appointments, and DME supplies, and getting scripts for those supplies, and stuff along that line of things, YOU KNOW It's not a quick process! IT IS NOT QUICK AT ALL! And take a small town DME that I'm surprised even does ventilators in the first place. THEY ARE SLOW, when it comes to getting things done! So, maybe my statement above wasn't sarcastic! Who knows? It could very well take that long, if I even get coverage for the air mattress! We'll just have to see!
When I was working on getting my VOCSN this September, the VOCSN ventilator came in a little less than a week. But It took my RT about a month, a few days short of a month to actually order the supplies that I needed. She kept forgetting to order supplies, and when she got the VOCSN to me, I kid you not. She didn't have heated circuits, or the cough bypass to allow me to use Cough Therapy while using the ventilator with the Heater Humidifier. It's now getting near the end of December, and do I have all the supplies for the VOCSN to allow me to sleep on it? NOPE!!! I'm still sleeping on the LTV ventilator, and only able to use the VOCSN for transportation! YEP! That's how that's working out for me! So, you think getting this air mattress, if it's even covered by my lovely insurance is gonna be quick? LOL! I don't think so people!!! I honestly find it funny that people would think that with a DME like My DME, it's going to be fast!! TRUST ME!!! IT'S NOT!!! IF IT EVEN HAPPENS!!
In other news, Here in Kentucky, the weather is stupidly cold, as it goes in winter. I HATE WINTER!!! Who likes winter? What normal person likes winter? My throat is a mess because of the lovely stupidly cold weather. I'm never warm. I usually am never warm during the winter, but especially since I'm losing weight! Maintaining my weight on the tube feedings I'm on, is just not going to happen. It's just not gonna happen. My stomach does not want to digest right, and the stupid quacks at the university are not going to do anything about it. The General surgeon was suppose to help with that, but that guy's a down right JERK of a Dr. He's a down right JERK!! That's a long story in itself the problems I've had from that Dr. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Roth!!!! and I could give you so many many reasons why not! But I'd be going on for a very long time!!!!
Anyhow, We'll see when my next blog post occurs. I really don't have much to say around winter time, as it's so cold, and what is there to do when weather is stupidly cold like this? My body wouldn't tolerate being outside in the cold weather. Have a great day, and GOD BLESS!!!!
